Summary

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Fuso FEC7T vehicles. The rear leaf spring may break.

 

Remedy

Dealers will replace the rear leaf spring assembly, free of charge. Interim notifications were mailed to owners on June 25, 2021. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-877-711-0707. MFTA’s number for this recall is C10117.

Safety Recall C10117 – Rear Leaf Springs

 

MODELS:

FEC7T (FE160)

 

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Certain 2019 model year FEC7T trucks.

 

A list of vehicles your Dealership has sold that require this Recall can be found on the Dealer’s “Open Campaigns” list supplied by MFTA via Fusonet.  Some individual vehicles described above may not need the Recall as the repairs may have already been performed.  Always check the “VIN Inquiry” tab under “Service” or “Warranty” on Fusonet to verify that the VIN requires this Safety Recall.

 

Important note:  It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new or used motor vehicle covered by this Recall Information Bulletin, under a sale or lease, until the Safety Recall has been completed.

 

OWNER NOTIFICATION:

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail.

 

CONDITION:

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in the rear leaf springs on certain 2019 model year FEC7T (FE160) Mitsubishi Fuso trucks.  On certain affected vehicles, a specific batch of rear leaf spring assemblies was built with leaves of insufficient strength that may break.  If the leaf spring breaks, a broken spring leaf may exit the vehicle onto the roadway and become a road hazard, or may strike another vehicle, resulting in a crash.

 

MODIFICATION:

The rear leaf spring assemblies will be replaced on all affected trucks.  The LT185C recall kit (1 per truck) must be ordered through the Recall Parts Order Form on Fusonet.

 

RECALL CLAIM SUBMITTAL:

Reimbursement claims are filed through FALCON using the Field Fix claim type.  Enter all requested information.  The system will automatically apply the labor allowance and recall kit.

 

PARTS PROCUREMENT:

Repair parts must be ordered using the Recall Parts Order Form on Fusonet.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, turn off the engine and chock the wheels. CAUTION!  

 

Do not remove the wheel chocks until all modification work has been completed. 

 

2. Install the rear leaf spring assemblies using instructions found Group 34 of the FUSO FE Gas Service Manual.

Dear Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Owner:

 

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

 

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in the rear leaf springs on certain 2019 Model Year FEC7T Mitsubishi Fuso trucks. The purpose of this letter is to explain what the recall is about and to keep you informed of MFTA’s implementation plan. We are currently making preparations to implement the Safety Recall remedy. We will send you another notification when the remedy is available

 

What is the problem?

On certain affected vehicles, a specific batch of rear leaf spring assemblies was built with leaves of insufficient strength that may break. If the leaf spring breaks, a broken spring leaf may exit the vehicle onto the roadway and become a road hazard, or may strike another vehicle, resulting in a crash.

 

What should you do in the interim?

We appreciate your patience while we prepare the remedy. In the meantime, you hear any abnormal noise from the rear suspension, or notice that a spring leaf is broken, please make an appointment with your authorized Mitsubishi Fuso dealer as soon as possible to have the rear leaf springs in your vehicle inspected and repaired.

If you have previously paid for repairs to your vehicle for this condition prior to receiving this letter, we will provide you instructions for reimbursement consideration in the second owner letter once the remedy preparations are completed.

 

Federal regulation requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days. If you are the lessor of the above referenced vehicle, please forward this notification immediately.
