A/C CONDENSER DAMAGE | No: TSB-00-55-001REV |
DATE: May, 2000 | |
MODEL See below |
PURPOSE
During A/C condenser fan operation, road debris (such as asphalt or small rocks) could be pushed into the condenser fan. Damage can result due to insufficient opening in the fan shroud for the debris to escape. As a result, the condenser and/or the condenser fan may become damaged. To eliminate this condition, if the condenser fan is damaged, install a new fan shroud assembly listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin. The fan shroud assembly includes the fan, shroud, and condenser motor.
IMPORTANT: Most replacement fan shroud assemblies already have the opening in the fan shroud; however some may require modification at the dealership.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997-2000 Montero Sport models produced before April, 2000.
PROCEDURE
1. If the condenser is damaged, replace it with the appropriate condenser part number listed on the following page.
2. If the condenser fan is damaged, replace the fan shroud assembly, using the appropriate part number listed on the following page of this bulletin. Refer to Group 55 in the appropriate Montero Sport service manual for fan shroud replacement instructions.
Inspect the replacement parts. If the replacement parts do not have an opening in the lower shroud for debris to escape, go to Step 3 for fan shroud modification instructions.
If the condenser fan is not damaged, do not replace it. Go to Step 3 for shroud modification instructions.
FAN SHROUD MODIFICATION
3a. Remove the fan shroud assembly from the vehicle. Then remove the fan. Refer to Group 55 in the appropriate Montero Sport service manual.
![]() | b. Cut material from the lower fan shroud as shown. The cut should be 10 mm deep and 108 mm across (between the ribs). |
