This TSB supercedes TSB-05-52A-002, issued November, 2005, to add affected vehicles and revise repair instructions. Revised information is italicized and indicated by ◄.
PURPOSE
If the driver’s power seat adjustment does not operate properly or exhibits noise, inspect the drive cable using step 1 of the PROCEDURE section of this TSB. If you determine the drive cable is damaged (bent or broken), replace it with the new cable listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
**IMPORTANT**
Do not replace the seat assembly for a drive cable issue. Warranty claims for seat assembly replacement for a damaged drive cable are subject to charge back.
Follow the instructions in this bulletin for diagnosing and replacing the seat adjuster drive cable.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2004-on Endeavor and Galant models equipped with power seats
2007-on Eclipse Spyder models equipped with power seats
PROCEDURE
Raise the seat to its highest position, and move it rearward to allow access to the cable.
To determine if a drive cable is damaged internally, (some will not show external damage), hold it while operating the seat switch. It may be necessary to slightly flex the cable while the motor is operated. If the noise is dampened or eliminated, replace the cable.
Before removing the drive cable, make sure that the driver’s seat is properly aligned, not angled to one side. The front edge of the driver’s seat should create a straight line when aligned with the front edge of the passenger’s seat.
NOTE:If the seat is not aligned prior to repair, it will not operate correctly after cable replacement.
Remove the damaged seat adjuster drive cable as follows:
Use channel lock pliers to loosen the compression nuts on both ends of the drive cable.
Remove the damaged drive cable from the vehicle.
Install the new seat adjuster drive cable as follows:
Insert the new cable into the motor. Then slightly bend the cable and insert the other side.
NOTE: If the cable does not install easily, simply tap the power seat switch (at the side of the seat) once to align the cable end.
Slide the compression nuts to the outer sides of the cable and hand tighten. Then use channel lock pliers to tighten the compression nuts 1/4 turn.
Use the power seat switch to confirm proper seat operation.
