Summary
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) is recalling certain 2019-2021 FEC7T, FECZT, FEC9T vehicles. The exhaust pipe studs and nuts may not have been properly tightened.
Remedy
MFTA will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the exhaust studs and nuts to the correct torque specification. The recall began December 11, 2020. Owners may contact MFTA customer service at 1-877-711-0707. MFTA’s number for this recall is C10114.

Certain 2019-2021 model year FECZT, FEC7T, and FEC9T trucks.
A list of vehicles your Dealership has sold that require this Recall can be found on the Dealer’s “Open Campaigns” list supplied by MFTA via Fusonet. Some individual vehicles described above may not need the Recall as the repairs may have already been performed. Always check the “VIN Inquiry” tab under “Service” or “Warranty” on Fusonet to verify that the VIN requires this Safety Recall.
Important note: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new or used motor vehicle covered by this Recall Information Bulletin, under a sale or lease, until the Safety Recall has been completed.
OWNER NOTIFICATION:
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail.
CONDITION:
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in the rocker arms on certain 2019-2021 model year FECZT (FE140), FEC7T (FE160) and FEC9T(FE180) Mitsubishi Fuso trucks. On certain trucks, the exhaust pipe studs and nuts may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the exhaust pipe connection could loosen over time and create an exhaust leak in the engine compartment. An exhaust leak in the engine compartment could damage components and create the risk of a fire.
MODIFICATION:
The exhaust studs will be tightened to the proper torque specification, the exhaust flange gaskets will be replaced along with any damaged studs or nuts.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface, turn off the engine and chock the wheels.
CAUTION! Do not remove the wheel chocks until all modification work has been completed.
2. Tighten the exhaust studs using instructions found in the Modification Procedure on the next page.
3. After reassembly, confirm that there are no leaks.
Modification Procedure
1. Remove the exhaust hanger bolts (Red Arrows) and exhaust flange nuts (Green Arrows) and disconnect the O2 sensor connectors (Blue Arrows).
2. Remove the front exhaust pipes from the exhaust manifold flanges by lowering the complete exhaust system down as shown in the photo below left. Remove the gaskets from the studs as shown in the photo below right.
3. Tighten all of the exhaust studs fully into the exhaust manifold flanges. *If any of the studs or nuts cannot be reused due to damage, replace them with OEM studs (ML296164) and nuts (ML296165).
4. Install new gaskets (ML296166 and ML296167) on the manifold flanges and connect the exhaust front pipes.
5. Reinstall the nuts on the studs and tighten to 44 +/- 3.7 ft.lbs. (60 Nm +/- 5 Nm).

scheduled time for repair is between approximately 1.5 hours.
